Plan a Charitable Estate

Planning a charitable estate is a creative and effective way for caring people to support the causes that matter to them. The decision of a lifetime, it's any substantial gift to a nonprofit organization that involves financial or estate planning. It results in needed financial support for intended recipients and favorable tax benefits to donors, families and heirs. Charitable estate planning ensures that the causes you care about, like the African American Museum in Philadelphia, are supported today – and tomorrow.

Become a Docent: Educating through Service

Docents (museum tour guides) are the faces of the museum for groups that visit each day. Our docents complete a rigorous training program that grounds them in the historical and artistic information contained in our galleries. They serve as educators and ambassadors, working arduously to ensure that the AAMP experience is fulfilling and enjoyable. Without our docents, our institution would not flourish.

The docent training program:

  • Combines the power of history with the art of storytelling to translate the heritage and culture of people of African descent in a relevant and engaging manner with dignity and respect.
  • Promotes what the museum signifies as a cultural institution and what it offers through its collections, exhibitions and programming.

  • Triggers the imagination of the visitor to make new connections and create a dialog between the visitor and the visual nature of the subject matter.

We encourage you to join our team of volunteer educators. We are always looking for motivated people who are passionate about history and culture of the African Diaspora.
